The Four Elements Of Design are Line, Form (Contour), Texture and Hue. I must give an endearing Thank You to Mr. Harlan and Room 4304 of Ohlone College for instilling this truth into me those many years ago and forever changing my life. To this day, I still live out The Four Elements in my life and in my work — having never forgotten the many design theory lessons taught to me by Mr. Harlan during the most early and formative years of my “graphic designer” life. Wherever you might be Mr. Harlan, I am forever grateful and I always look back and remember our many desk-side chats, design critiques, and mentor-student conversations you and I had during those “classic Ohlone College” years. I miss it all very much. I especially greatly miss Room 4304 on campus. That particular place and teaching space quite literally forever left a concrete imprint on me as a young designer and it changed my life. I quite literally eventually became a real, live, breathing and living and working graphic designer because of Room 4304 and other classrooms on campus like it. I know that I will never see you again, sir. But I just wanted to use this page and this moment to once again say, “thank you.” Confoundedly, I greatly miss “classic Ohlone College” and those by-gone years from long ago. Perhaps someday I will have the chance to do it all over again. Perhaps.

Line. Form (Contour). Texture. Hue.

A designer lives and breaths by these facts. They are The Elements of this designed world.
